Kids Commute is a classical music education program from Interlochen Public Radio, a listener-supported broadcast service of Interlochen Center for the Arts. Join Classical IPRs Kate Botello weekdays as she picks stories and sounds from the world of classical music that kids will love. We want kids to know that classical music isn’t fancy - it’s just music!
Kids Commute is here to ensure young people know what classical music is, how it interacts with the other arts and how to appreciate it. Kids Commute will hopefully inspire kids to visit the concert hall or to take up the craft and study an instrument. We do that by exploring classical music by different themes - sometimes we focus on a composer (John Williams, Danny Elfman) or works written for a specific instrument. Other times we’ll focus on a major work like an opera or a ballet and tell the story throughout the week. No matter what the weekly theme is, Kate light-heartedly guides our listeners through each selection, identifying the musical themes and things to listen for as we listen to the composition.
While Kids Commute airs each weekday on Classical IPR at 7:40 am, with this app, you can listen at your own convenience! Join us on Kids Commute - we’ll party like it’s 1799!
